Summer is finally here, which means long, light nights, days spent in the sunshine and cool evenings relaxing with friends, family and a few cold beers. Most of us find that the best of the summer weather really creeps up on us so if you’re planning on having a few parties in your outdoor space this summer, then now is the time to start prepping.
Here you’ll find a few helpful tips and handy reminders of what you might need to have ready if you want your next garden party to be a total success.
It’s been a long winter, and the spring weather hasn’t exactly been great either. If your yard or garden is looking a little worse for wear then now is the time to give it some much needed attention. Pull up weeds, trim back hedgerows, sweep up all those dead leaves and plant debris and get power washing your patio. If you fancy adding a little colour then get a few pots filled with some easy care plants. Or if you want to invest in your garden for next summer as well as this one, check out fast growing trees from The Tree Center and other plants that you can enjoy for the summers to come.
No one wants to stand for an entire event. This is even more true if your backyard doesn’t have grass. You need to think about making sure your guests have somewhere to sit and relax in the sun. Dust off your old patio set and give it a good clean. Upcycle it if you have the time – maybe paint it a bright, vivid colour – or invest in a new set. If you have more guests then chairs, consider providing some cushions, bean bags or even blankets to sit on. Or for the ultimate in summer party comfort – who could resist a couple of hammocks? Remember, the more comfortable they are, the more likely they are to stay all the way through the evening.
It’s great to see and feel the summer sun again. But guests might need a little relief from the rays for a time, especially if they’re drinking too. Providing shaded areas is the best way to keep your guests comfortable. A gazebo is ideal – if you have the space. A few well-placed garden umbrellas or a canopy. Maybe some mini teepees for any younger guests and tents are always popular too!
No one wants a warm beer, right? And everyone wants something cold to drink on a hot day. Rather than nipping into the house every two minutes to raid the fridge/freezer for ice and drinks, fill containers with ice and place your drinks in them. It’ll keep everything really cold and look awesome too.
Whether it’s a BBQ or a cold buffet your hosting, the best way to keep everything organised and looking great is to set up serving stations. Plates and cutlery, sides and salads – keep it organised. Your guests will love it.
