Here in Mukilteo, Washington we are very fortunate to have the wonderful Peter Zieve, businessman and CEO of Electroimpact, working tirelessly for the communities here in. Peter grew up in the area which is why he is so passionate about giving back through his sports and business program. Not only has Peter helped many young people through these programs, he has also inspired many more people to give back to their community. The local Herald and news outlets have been featuring Peter for these reasons and he was kind enough to make some time for us, as we met up in Seattle to discuss why more people should give back.
Strengthen Communities
Communities are only as strong as their weakest links and this is why we must work hard to avoid the erosion of communities. It is clear that local politics can’t be used to find the answer and so people must work hard, volunteer and campaign themselves to ensure that communities are brought together, based on a network of support.
Could Be You
There is always a certain set of events which could take place and see you requiring the support of your community, and that is something that we shouldn’t forget. In this regard there is a certain notion of paying forward the humankind that you would like to be shown if that was you who couldn’t afford your rent or your child who has dropped out of school. Don’t ever think that you are above problems, giving now will be your way of putting some credits in the bank should anything bad happen to you.
Health
Studies have shown that goodwill to others and volunteer work is actually good for your health. The chemicals that are released in the body when you make an act of kindness can help to relieve stress and depression, help with anxiety issues and even help to maintain your blood pressure as a result.
Meeting People
Communities have, and always will be about people not the programs that take place or the attention that they are given by politicians. And so if you are able to help out in your community you will not only be using your power for good, but you can also meet new people in your community, which then goes on to further strengthen the community.
Making a Difference
It can be easy to feel down about some of the world’s problems and the most frustrating thing is the helplessness that many of us feel. When it comes to helping your community however this is something that you actually can affect, you can make a difference here and you will be able to see the results of the work that you have put in. My father always told me not to worry about things that are out of my control and the community and its issues very much are in my control, so we should help.
