Are You Buying a Home With Propane Heat? Here Are 4 Questions to Ask

Are You Buying a Home With Propane Heat? Here Are 4 Questions to Ask

Many homeowners up north want to buy a house with propane heat. But there are still questions needed to be asked with energy alternatives. Here are 4 examples.

In the USA, 14,300,000 houses rely on propane.

Are you thinking of buying a house which relies on propane heat? Then there are a few very important questions which you should ask before you make an offer.

Let’s take a look at what these questions are:

1. What Size is My Future Propane Tank?

This makes a big difference to how often you’ll require more propane. A realistic residential propane tank can hold up to 1,000 gallons. But, it may hold as little as 120 gallons.

Finding out how large the propane tank is certainly an essential question for when buying a home which relies on propane heat.

You can then decide whether the size suits your needs. If you have a larger tank, it won’t need to be filled as often as a small tank.

However, you’ll have to put aside more money in bulk for this transaction. It may include rejigging your budget and finances a little.

2. Where Exactly is the House’s Propane Tank?

A propane tank may be an eye-sore and it may be very obvious where it is on the property.

However, you should always ask where it is, especially if you can’t see it, as it may be below ground to keep your property attractive to the eye.

Knowing where your propane tank is is essential before buying a house. You’ll need to know how close it is to your home and be able to point maintenance people in the right direction.

3. Can I See the Monitoring System for the Propane Tank and Maintenance Records?

You’ll want to know how much propane the house you’re moving into uses. To do this, you’ll need to ask to see the monitoring system in place.

As well as this, you should also ask to see how well it is being maintained. Your monitoring system should help with this. But, you’ll also want to see paper records.

If it’s not possible to view a monitoring system or records, you may want to consider another house. This could prove a lack of care and that you’ll face issues later on when it’s too late.

4. Finally, Make Sure to Ask Whether You will own the Propane Tank?

If you’re buying your own first home, then it’s likely that you’re happy to be leaving the world of renting behind.

However, if you’re not careful and forget to ask this question then you may find you end up renting a propane tank from a large company.

Of course, this has its benefits. For example, the responsibility for maintenance is not yours and lies with the company.

But, if you’d rather be responsible, then you need to know which company to buy the tank from.

When a house changes hands, it’s possible to buy the tank.

However, you need to make sure this is possible before you buy. If the tank already belongs to the homeowner, the previous owner may pass it over to you and include it in their asking price.

Propane Heat is an Important Responsibility

When you’re buying a house, there are so many questions you need to ask that it can be easy to forget about asking these four.

However, make them a priority if you’re buying a house which relies on propane heat and you won’t regret it after purchase. As they say, better safe than sorry.
