3 Tips For Honing Your Personal Style As A New Parent

October 13, 2019 by Jarred

Becoming a new parent can be tough. Not only are you trying to deal with this new child that’s now in your life, but it can also be a challenge to figure out what your role is now and how you fit into the world around you.

For many parents, they simply become stuck in the phase they were in when they first had kids, especially with their personal style and wardrobe. So to help you embrace this new phase of your life and transition easier into parenthood, here are three tips for honing your personal style as a new parent.

Keep Things Simple

According to Bianca Alexander, a contributor to Psych Central, one of the best guidelines to follow for your personal style when you become a parent is just to keep things simple.

At this point in your life, you likely won’t have time to get completely ready every day of your life like you used to. Some things might fall by the wayside, like shaving every morning or having perfect hair for every outing. But as long as you know what’s important to you and your style, like throwing on some mascara or using a beard oil to keep things soft and smooth, you should be able to transition from your pre-parenting style to a parent with style.

Match Your Personal Style With Your Parenting Style

While most people spend a lot of time thinking about their parenting style, many parents don’t think about how their personal sense of style will mesh well with what they do as a parent.

To help you match these two things together, Jen Goodhue, a contributor to CBC.ca, recommends that you think about what your parenting style is and then dress in a way that best facilitates that for you. If you have a very relaxed parenting style, you’ll likely also have a very relaxed personal style. But if you always want to be prepared and ready as a parent, you might choose clothing that helps you do this, like wearing lots of storage.

Have Some “Go-To” Looks

For those days when you’ve been up all night with your kids but still have to pull yourself together in the morning, it can be helpful to have some “go-to” looks that you can always depend on to help you look the part.

According to Victoria Richards, a contributor to the Huffington Post, some of the most common “go to” looks for busy parents include wearing something that’s a bright color or pattern—to distract from anything else that might be going on—or to throw on some lipstick or other classy accessory.

If you’re looking to embrace more of a parental sense of style, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you do just that.
