4 Cooking Tips for Students

October 23, 2020 by Jarred

Students already have enough to worry about when trying to prepare healthy meals between a busy class schedule and studying for tests. Pursuing a hectic schedule is taxing. You can still eat healthy though. Being a student you need food that can keep you going throughout the day, but you must also focus on your diet and not just the school lifestyle.

Here’s 4 cooking tips for students to eat well on the go:

1. Learn How to Use A Rice Cooker:

Rice is cheap and easy to prepare. White rice can be transformed into many delicious meals such as Fried Rice, Chicken Fried Rice, Korean Kimchi Fried Rice, Baked Rice, and much more. A rice cooker can help you in your endeavors to cook healthy meals and to save time. Using a rice cooker is also very easy. All you must do is wash the rice properly, add the required amount of water, and then turn the rice cooker on. That way you won’t have to soak rice and have to monitor it constantly while it’s cooking. Once you hear it beeping, you can partake of a healthy meal which will help prepare you for your next big test.

2. Learn to Plan:

Planning is key to a healthy lifestyle, whether you’re a student, working professional, stay at home mom, retiree, or a homemaker. You need to be mindful what you consume daily. You can plan your meals by pre-cooking large portions in advance, or figure out how many days of dinner to cook. You can use portion control containers, or small sized Tupperware, to portion your meal and place them inside a big freezer bag. Then you can thaw the bag on the day before you want to serve the meal. The rice cooker can also be used to pre-cook larger food portions so that you won’t have to cook after a hectic day.

3. Use a Microwave More:

Cooking with a microwave helps you in a number of ways. First, you can reheat your food instantly. It takes no time to heat up your food, even on busy mornings. You can also cook a large portion of your meal for the entire day, and serve separate portions of it as you go about your day. It can also warm up and cook frozen vegetables which is better than serving them in the frozen state.

4. Learn Cooking Skills from Friends and Family:

Cooking can be fun. You don’t just have to go to the store and get meals. Instead, you can save time, and bond with your family, learning how to cook. Talk to friends or members of your family who can teach you basic cooking skills. They can give you tips, or teach you their tried and true recipes and cooking styles.

Verdict:

Caring for yourself and keeping healthy is not about being obstinate, it’s about taking care of yourself. Eating healthy does not mean a lack of yummy or tasty foods, it means knowing your limits and having the knowledge where to go. As cliché as it is, you are the best doctor for yourself, so don’t be afraid to take care of yourself.
