Why Am I Angry All The Time? 5 Ways to Reduce Your Mood and Get Happy

March 4, 2019 by Jarred

There are a lot of reasons to get angry in this world. The government may have you down, the state of global politics might be frustrating the idealist in you, or maybe your neighbor has the habit of playing polka music late into the night.

Those things can be temporarily agitating, but what happens when you’re angry almost all of the time? It can be hard to get out of that cycle of negativity, especially when you don’t know why it’s happening in the first place.

So, are you asking your self “why am I angry all of the time?” We’re here to help.

Why Am I Angry All of the Time?

We’re going to give you five tips to try and improve your mood. If these tips don’t do anything for you, it might be a good time to move forward and try to consider other options.

Let’s get started:

1. Take an Inventory

When you’re strung throughout a day filled with things that make you angry, it can be hard to remember what even fired you up in the first place.

Every time something makes you angry, write it down in a notepad of some kind. Every time the same thing makes you angry, put a tally next to it. Having a log of the things that make you angry can give you some perspective on how often you’re getting angry and why.

2. Take a Step Back

Look at the list of things that you’re irritated by and give each item some thought. Are you justified in feeling the way you do about that thing?

Is the other person involved justified in acting the way they did, and is there anything you could do to change the situation? If not, is it within your power to let it go?

3. Try Exercise

Exercise in any capacity is a great way to release tension and actually generate chemicals that lead to happiness. When you work out, you release endorphins that calm you and give you a feeling of happiness.

It can also help you to sweat out the toxins that may be bogging you down on a physical level. You can’t rule out the connection between physical health and emotions.

4. Try Meditation of Some Kind

While you don’t have to buy a meditation pillow or go to a monastery, it’s clear that meditation of some kind will help you calm your mind and have the skills needed to assess your thoughts as they come up.

Meditation is a practice, though, so don’t expect results right away. You can think of it as a long-term way to improve yourself.

5. See a Counselor

Talking with a therapist or counselor can help you to identify your triggers, as well as deal with the underlying issues that might be lingering around.

Additionally, this person can help you to deal with any damage that you might have cause to your relationships as a result of the anger. Further, counselors can help with anger management and assist you to get help with addiction recovery.

Many times, anger and addiction have overlapping symptoms and and each plays important roles in the recovery of the other.
