One of the hardest parts about being a parent is that you feel guilty about not spending enough time with your family because of your career or otherwise busy lifestyle. Of course, most people would rather be home with their families, but other things get in the way. Especially in this day and age when the cost of living is higher than ever and many people are having to work extra jobs just to get by.
All of this being said, there are many small lifestyle changes you can make if you aren’t happy with the way things currently are. If this sounds like you, read on. Here are 3 tips for spending more time with your family.
Involve Your Family In Your Work And Passions
Whether you work from home fully remotely or you have the type of job you never truly clock out from and you’re constantly bringing your work home with you, there are ways to involve your family in your work.
For example, if you’re a teacher you may have to bring papers home to grade them. While you do this, try watching a silly movie with your family or asking them their input on the assignment you gave your students to try and start an interesting conversation that you can continue later on.
This goes for passions as well! For instance, if you’ve decided to print a coloring book and donate the proceeds to a non-non-profit organization, perhaps you could ask for your family’s help promoting it, or ask them to tag along with you to the print shop so that you can play a card game while you wait for all the printing to finish. Even if you have other things to do, there are always small ways you can incorporate your kids or spouse to make it more fun!
Cut Back On Hours At Your Job
Take a good look at your finances and budget and try to figure out if it’s possible to cut back and work fewer hours at work. Check into any subscriptions you may not be using, or other extra costs that you don’t need to be spending money on anymore.
If you’re able to lower your monthly budget a bit, it may be possible for you to work less. Though this may not be possible for everyone if you’re able to make it happen it’s one of the best ways to gain more family time.
Adjust Bedtimes
If you or other members of your family sleep in super late each day or go to bed earlier than necessary, this may be a big reason why you feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day and you’re missing out on time together. Try adjusting your own bedtime if needed so that you get up at the same time as your kids do for that extra time together in the mornings. You could also evaluate whether or not your child is ready to be given the privilege of a later bedtime so that they can stay up and have you read to them. No matter how you choose to do this, it’s guaranteed to give you more time with your loved ones which is exactly what you want.
With a busy schedule that has you constantly on the go, it can be hard to find time to spend with your family. But with just a few tweaks you may find that where there’s a will there’s a way, and hopefully, these tips help with that!
