4 Options for Your Next Garage Flooring Project

July 26, 2021 by Jarred

The garage is a unique space in any house. Besides parking, many people use their garages for storage as well. You, therefore, need a flooring material that is sturdy and resilient to hold up to vehicle movement.

Depending on the items you store in your garage, the garage floor also tends to take many spills. Without a floor with some stain-resisting qualities, this space can quickly take too many stains that ultimately make it unattractive.

What are the different garage flooring options available and which one to choose?

1. Resin Flooring

When looking for a sturdy, beautiful floor for your garage, consider resin flooring. Resin is a hard plastic made from combining a hardener with a synthetic resin. This is essentially considered a resin coating.

While there are three types, epoxy resin is often preferred for heavy-duty use like garages and industrial use. When applied, epoxy resin floors completely bind to the existing floor, providing reliable, durable flooring options. For your garage, you can get one with anti-slip properties for additional safety.

2. Rubber Tile Flooring

Rubber floors are available in both mats and tiles. This floor type is easy to install and be done as a DIY job to save labor costs.

The rubber tiles are flexible and come in attractive patterns that can give any garage a significant facelift. They also come in interlocking patterns. This feature gives the tiles increased stability and strength. The pieces are available in 12×12 or 24×24 inches. These can be installed on any subfloors and work superbly well on concrete falls.

Another attractive gesture about this type of floor is that they are extremely affordable. Once installed, a rubber tile floor requires minimal maintenance, is easy to clean, and can withstand all climatic conditions.

3. Vinyl Flooring

An enhanced Urethane coated vinyl can be suitable for low-traffic garages that don’t get too much heavy pressure.

Urethane-coated vinyl tiles are flexible and attractive. You can opt for multicolored tiles to enhance the aesthetic appeal of your garage’s flooring. Once installed, this floor requires very little maintenance. Its cleaning regimen is also very simple and can be cleaned easily with solvents commonly found in the home.

4. Stone Flooring

If you don’t mind splurging a bit more on a flooring choice that will last for decades, consider stone flooring. Sandstone, graphite and flagstone are expensive but excellent types of garage flooring.

However, despite their durability, stone floors can get very cold in cool months. It’s therefore prudent to consider the climatic conditions of your area before installing a stone garage floor. This aside, this flooring type is eye-catching, extremely hard, and very resilient.

There you have it. These are among the best flooring types in the market. Depending on your budget, climatic conditions of where you live, and so on, you can find the best option for this important space.
