At Arlo Hotel NYC we love our city’s park system. In a city filled with skyscrapers, it’s nice to have a break with some trees and open green space. Of course, most travelers and many of the locals head towards Central Park for relaxation, a morning jog, or to sit with nature. Central Park is amazing, however there are more than 1,700 parks in the five boroughs, and we encourage visitors to enjoy some of our lesser-known favorites. Within the park system there are also more than 1,000 playgrounds, 550 tennis courts, and 13 golf courses. We know our guests cannot visit a fraction of all these facilities, we just like to brag about your city’s amazing park system that offers something for everyone.
In Manhattan, we suggest The Battery in the Financial District for its cool SeaGlass Carousel and Spiral Fountain that are delightful for kids of all ages. There’s also a revitalization project that’s in progress for the park which will include a puppet theater, a massive playhouse, and other fun spaces. We also love the Hudson River Park, which stretches along the river from Lower Manhattan to Midtown. It offers great views, green spaces, and great paths for a bike or jog. There’s also a golf driving range, and various other sports activities possible in the park, including rock climbing.
Another favorite is Bryant Park in Midtown. During the week you’ll find office workers taking a lunch break and tourists enjoying a snack in the shade. This 10-acre park offers enough space for everyone, and you can challenge your skills with chess and backgammon tables. If you’re in Greenwich Village, then head to Washington Square Park and enjoy some shops and tree-filled scenery. Enjoy the park with the area’s many NYU college students and live like a local for the afternoon.
