With Christmas just around the corner it is time that we turned our attentions to gift ideas for your nearest and dearest. This year I have been trying to really increase the level of personalization which the gifts have, and for one lucky recipient this means that I am craving up the Mexican theme all the way to 10. y friend Rose Burillo has lived in the US for many years now yet she is originally Mexican. I have decided therefore to choose this as the topic of choice for her gifts, and these are just some of the things which I am considering. If you have a friend with a passion for Mexico, these could give you some good ideas to choose from.
Bottle of Mezcal
Whilst mezcal has certainly made its way outside of Mexico, it is still far more popular inside the country than outside, something we probably cannot say for its fellow blue agave drink tequila. Thankfully however whilst it may not be uber-popular, mezcal is widely accessible and that means it shouldn’t be too tough for you to pick up a bottle of it for your loved one.
Tortilla Press
Tacos and quesadillas are the lynchpin of Mexican cuisine and recreating it a home is not always as tough as it may look. In fact the corn dough itself is very easy to make but the challenge comes when you have to make the dough into the right shape and depth for tortillas. All restaurants and vendors will use a tortilla press and this inexpensive item could be just what someone needs to really spice up their kitchen, and recreate that taste of home.
Mayan Style Clothing
The style of the Mayas is very much in fashion right now and there are a number of fashion houses who have taken this style and brought it forward into the new generation. Generally speaking this style uses a lot of handmaid items with flowers and a cross section of bright colors just like what they would have worn centuries ago. This is a greta choice for those who are looking to feel a little bit closer to their roots, a wonderful idea for a present.
Mexican Coffee
Most of us enjoy coffee from further south of the border than Mexico but it is important that we don’t overlook just how high the quality of the coffee here can be. In Chiapas and Veracruz in particular there are some delicious and rich coffee beans which are produced and this can certainly provide a taste of home. Mexican coffee is not produced in the volume that other nations do and that is why it is yet to really gain worldwide recognition. Nonetheless, this is a great option for some tasty and high level coffee, another great gift which will remind someone of their home nation.
Any more ideas you can think of please let me know in the comments section below this post, I’d love to hear from you.
