An intriguing study has been released which has suggested that flowers could have more than the standard “nice to look at” benefits that most of us associate with them.
The American Society for Horticulture Science actually performed their work last year, but it has been unearthed again most probably due to the situation that the world find itself in.
The study looked at whether plants were able to have a therapeutic influence on surgical patients.
Covering a total of 90 patients, it was found that those who had some sort of flower or plant in their room had a lower blood pressure and heart rate. Not only that, but they also tended to have more positive feelings than those who were staying in rooms without such decoration.
While much more research is required into the subject, the results from this particular study seem to complement others that have been conducted. For example, the Complementary Therapies in Medicine journal published findings that suggested that flowers lowered stress levels.
To use flowers for purely medicinal purposes would not be advisable, but evidence over the last few years has certainly suggested that they can play a big part to play in the home (as well as hospitals, where these studies were conducted).
For example, one only has to cast their eye over the Avas Flowers Pinterest page to see this in its full glory. If you drill down to the Avas Flowers carnations page on the platform, you’ll see the sort of displays that are possible. Then, a quick look at all of the Avas Flowers positive feedback shows the soaring positive effects they can have on our attitudes as a whole.
It is not the first time that flowers have been at the center of interesting discussions either. If we sway away from their supposed medical benefits, it is understood that they can go as far as boosting the chances of selling a home. Unsurprisingly, no survey has been officially conducted on this, but the next time you do venture to the store to purchase flowers just remember that it’s more than a pretty sight and scent that is potentially going to grace your home.
