When it comes to having a comfortable home environment, it is often the little things that make the most significant differences. If you think about all of the times that you have been incredibly frustrated because something small was wrong with your home, then you begin to understand how this sense of importance comes into being. Yes, there are big things they can go wrong once or twice. But there are little things that can go wrong all of the time and feel absolutely infuriating. That’s when it’s time to start with the small stuff.
And you can think of three things as an example of how this works. For example, how frustrating is it when your kitchen sink does not work correctly? Or what if your bathtub drain gets clogged? How about when you know that you’re losing all kinds of money because air is leaking out of your unsealed doors and windows? Thinking through that kind of perspective, you’ll quickly realize what types of things you should be focusing on to make your family more comfortable at home.
The Kitchen Sink
Why not start with the kitchen sink. If you’ve ever had a drippy faucet, you know that you want to tear the whole kitchen apart because it’s so irritating. Luckily, it’s not too hard to repair a leaky faucet. With a very small amount of research, you should be able to handle it. And, if you find out that it’s more difficult than you can do, you’ll at least be able to tell a professional plumber what processes you went through to understand what the issue was.
The Bathtub Stopper
Another super annoying thing happens when you have to fix a bathtub drain stopper. It is one of the first things to go wrong in your bathroom, and it is one of the absolute most annoying. If your water either isn’t draining fast enough or you can’t get it to stop flowing, that can ruin your nighttime experience. If you have children, there are very few things as frustrating as trying to fight with a bathtub drain stopper and your kids at the same time. As a parent, you’ll be very aware of this conflict.
Sealing Your Windows and Doors
A final thing to consider when it comes to the small stuff is the idea of making sure that your windows and doors are sealed properly. It helps in hot summers, and it helps in cold winters. It’s not very hard to find out where air may be leaking around the edges of your doors and windows and purchase inexpensive equipment to fix it. It is not something that you should put off until a rainy day. It is something that you should approach immediately because it doesn’t take too much time or money to do it – it just takes a little bit of motivation.
