It’s a frequent debate this. Some people love the rustling and bustling downtown areas with trendy bars and super-extravagant venues. Others wouldn’t trade the clean air and vast open space of the suburbs for anything. Even though we can see both sides of the story, in this article we would like to give three strong reasons why living out of town is better than settling somewhere close to the heart of the city.
Pollution
Air, water and other types of pollution in large cities is much more of an issue than out in the suburbs. Some research has shown links between living in the suburbs and a lesser chance of lung cancer, but that research needs more substantial evidence.
It cannot be said that inner-city people have worse health. We’re only saying that air and water contamination in the suburbs is much less which implicates a healthier lifestyle. Furthermore, there is also crime in the cities and during the COVID-19 pandemic for example, people from major cities like NYC flocked to hills in the city outskirts and to less populated areas of the state and/or country to spend their quarantine there.
Traffic
Traffic and high-car numbers are super-annoying. Traffic is amongst the things that city-dwellers list as the most annoying.
To cover 6.4 kilometres or 4 miles in a really large city, it can take an hour or so to move such a distance. This is equivalent to walking, which makes transportation super difficult. Parking spaces are expensive to own while public transport can often be overcrowded.
This isn’t an issue in the suburbs, but if you work downtown, getting in and out of the city could also be a pain, but the time it takes to travel shouldn’t differ that much.
Community
Say what you want, but suburban communities are stronger than inner-city ones. This has to do with the fact that downtown and busy city areas have more diverse people. We aren’t disrespecting city communities, just objectively laying out the fact that when it comes to events, safety and wellbeing of their community members, suburban people tend to work better together.
You can make it your own
Renovation and construction is expensive and limited in the city. If you are out in the suburbs, you can make any fantasy and dream come true. Don’t like regular wood from IKEA? Use Charred timber from degmeda.eu. Want a waterpool in your backyard? Desire a treehouse? Always yarned for a BBQ spot? These aspects, which really turn a house into a home are much more realistic in the suburbs.
