5 Reasons To Take The Whole Family On Your Next Hunting Trip

November 30, 2020 by Jarred

Whether you are married with kids, one of ten siblings, or have a group of friends who’re as close as family, everyone has family in some form or another. Many people go on hunting trips to have some alone time away from their families, but have you ever considered taking the whole family with you?

Here are five reasons to load up the car and bring your loved ones on your next hunting trip.

Bonding

Hunting is a great way to bond with the people you love. If you have children who are just learning to hunt or parents and grandparents who have been hunting for years, it can be a perfect opportunity for long chats about life.

Fresh Air

Everyone, no matter their age, can benefit from the great outdoors and a little bit of fresh air. A hunting trip is a wonderful opportunity to take advantage of nature and relax a little bit. Even if a member of the family doesn’t want to partake in hunting, they can still come along and camp, swim, go on hikes, and cook on the campfire with you.

Focus and Discipline

If you have children, siblings, or cousins who are in their teens, you may not have taken them on a hunting trip before. But hunting can be an excellent skill to learn to teach them focus, discipline, and confidence. If you take them hunting with you, you will be there with them the whole time to teach them everything you know and watching them learn these valuable life skills will be extremely rewarding for you.

Unity

Hunting brings families together, because it’s hard work. Working together on a hunt can help to settle arguments and seal bonds between family members because if you want to get it done, you have to rely on your family members to help you. You’ll be carrying heavy kills as well as preparing the carcasses, none of which is easy work. Why not have a little help?

Tradition

In many families, hunting is a tradition that is carried on over multiple generations. If you’re a hunter, don’t allow the family tradition to stop with you. Bring your family along for the hunt and make memories just like your ancestors before you did!

When you’re thinking of planning your next hunting trip, remember this and consider bringing your whole family along. You’ll get so much out of the experience that you would never be able to get alone, you’ll have help with the hardest tasks, and you’ll make irreplaceable memories that you’ll have for the rest of your life.

It’s easy being green: 5 soothing natural spaces in London

October 5, 2020 by Jarred

Summer may be over, but that doesn’t mean our time outside has to be. 2020 has been a strange year, and with the rise of home working and children spending less time at school, it has become more important than ever before to soak up some of the great outdoors.

Spending time outside allows people to access an array of health benefits, from improving memory and de-stressing, to fighting depression and anxiety. So, what are you waiting for? If you’re planning on visiting the British capital this autumn or winter, we’ve rounded up our top five picks for natural spaces nearby.

The below sites allow you to see London as you’ve never seen it before by taking in some fresh air, slowing down the pace of your trip, and truly enjoying the glorious outdoors.

Abney Park cemetery, Stoke Newington

Abney Park cemetery has it all: culture (being one of the Victorian ‘magnificent seven’ garden cemeteries in London), peace and greenery in a woodland memorial park and Local Nature Reserve.

The park is free to access throughout the year, and offers guided walks and educational experiences. At the time this article was being written, Abney Park was open, but asking visitors to respect social distancing rules and adhere to government guidelines.

Primrose Hill, Camden

Primrose Hill is bursting with character. From the top of this grassy hill, you can enjoy spectacular views across London, one of the six protected viewpoints in the city. The summit is almost 63 meters above sea level!

Primrose Hill is particularly beautiful in the colder months, especially when the frost arrives! Primrose Hill Park was open at the time of this article being written, but please respect their rules on social distancing to enjoy a safe and relaxing visit.

Ham House and Garden

Ham House and Garden describes itself as a “unique 17th-century treasure trove”, and it’s difficult to disagree with that characterization.

The house sits on the banks of the River Thames and holds a spectacular collection of art, but it’s the gardens that are arguably an even greater attraction. There’s a productive kitchen garden with heritage crops, a maze-like ‘Wilderness’, summerhouses, and gorgeous spots for a picnic.

To visit, book in advance to secure your slot.

Kyoto Garden, Holland Park, Kensington

A stone’s throw away from Shepherd’s Bush and Kensington High Street tube stations, the Kyoto Garden inside Holland Park is not to be missed. Opened in 1991 as a gift from the city of Kyoto, Japan, the garden is very popular – filled with tranquil waterfalls, a pond full of koi carp, stone lanterns, Japanese maple trees, and more.

St Katharine Docks, Central London

St Katharine Docks is central London’s only marina, and it makes for a fabulous day out on the north bank of the Thames, immediately downstream of Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. This prestigious landmark is full of rich history and innovation, and is a home for communities, businesses, and tourists. Explore the vibrant docks, known to some as London’s best-kept secret.

Are you looking for somewhere to stay in central London? One option – Dorsett Hotel, City – makes particular sense, given that it’s conveniently close to St Katharine Docks.

So, what are you waiting for? London is truly beautiful in the autumn and winter, and the current moment is a surprisingly opportune time to visit, with the city not being quite as bustling as it was prior to the pandemic.

Going on a Long Trip in Your Beat-Up Car: Tips on How Not to Break Down in the Middle of Nowhere

June 26, 2020 by Jarred

blue sedan with chain on tire parking on snowfield at daytime

Going on road trips are so much fun, especially if you are with family and friends. It is not so much the destination but the journey itself. But how can you thoroughly enjoy the journey without hassle on the road in your beat-up car? If you are thinking of selling your car to a junk car buyer but still have to make one last trip, then you must take all precautions before you start the engine so that you don’t encounter any issues along the way, especially if the next repair shop is not for several miles.

Listen for odd sounds

Your car may be old, but it should not exhibit clanking sounds that should not be there in the first place. If you have been driving your car for a long time, you should know by now what to listen to. Should there be any weird sound, get it checked and addressed.

Get busted parts repaired or replaced

Beat-up cars are most likely to have busted parts that need fixing or replacing. Trust your mechanic – if you don’t have any car repair skills – if they say that this needs fixing, and this needs replacing. You are, after all, going on a long trip, and you cannot afford for these busted parts to act up in the middle of nowhere, leaving you with no option but to wait for a tow truck.

Check the tires and brakes

The tires and brakes should be on top of your list to check before a long trip. Making sure that they are on par with the standard will save your life on the road. Tires with surfaces badly worn should be immediately replaced. You should also know how to change a flat tire, so you don’t have to rely on a mechanic to arrive before you can get back on the road. If your brakes are not working correctly and it takes a longer time than usual to stop after braking, then a professional should address the issue.

Bring tools

It would help if you educated yourself on simple car troubleshooting to tide you over until you find a nearby auto repair shop. Tools such as a hydraulic jack should always be in the trunk of your car. If you are not a car person and only know how to drive and not perform simple troubleshooting, then it’s time for you to learn, especially if you are traveling alone.

Go to a trusted mechanic

Always go to a trusted professional mechanic before you go on a trip to check on your old car. It may cost you for repairs, but your safety and the safety of your passengers and other drivers on the road is paramount.

If the worst happens and the mechanic rules that your old ride is no longer road trip worthy, then you may consider renting or borrowing a car that will get you to your destination in one piece, if you cannot afford to buy a new car yet.

London with kids: How to plan for the holidays

April 22, 2020 by Jarred

It would be fair to say that this year is different to most in the way of summer holidays and for some parents, most of the next few months might be viewed as that.

However, looking at this from an evergreen perspective, let’s analyze under “usual circumstances”. When summer arrives, parents are often inundated with concerns about what to do with their little ones. In fact, it doesn’t even have to be during summer, any prolonged holidays away from school can prompt worries about how to plan days.

If you happen to be based in London, this task becomes somewhat easier. Today’s post is all about showing ideas on how to handle this downtime with your little ones and make the most of the time off in the capital.

It can be as simple as a bus

One of the great things about little people is that it can all boil down to something that is utterly simple. This is the case with this first suggestion, with the classic Routemaster being the definition of huge excitement for some kids. Particularly if you grab something like the No11, you’ll find yourselves going past Westminster, St Paul’s and the Houses of Parliament – which can be something of a mini-tourism route!

History doesn’t cost anything

By a similar token, instead of simply riding past these historic sites, considering stopping by some of them as well. Of course, there are umpteen across the capital, but if we were to pick a specific example it would be around Covent Garden. Not only do you have the wealth of cafes and shops which can prove entertaining for kids (particularly the former), but there are historical tours, former filmsets and more that can comfortably prove entertaining for a dive back through the times.

It can be as simple as green space

For a lot of people, London is the definition of skyscrapers and modern developments. However, look within, and umpteen parks are unleashed. It might be Wimbledon Common, Brockwell Park or even something a little less well-known such as Coram’s Fields. All of these are free to enter, have some of the best playgrounds around and are great for little ones to let off some steam.

If you are in the midst of the longer summer holidays, consider creating a schedule where you visit one of these parks per day. You can combine it with the public transport system, and create a real adventure where children start to learn more about how London ticks and even the geography of it.

A trip to the theatre

If we return to our suggestion of Covent Garden, a trip to the theatre can form another itinerary for a day. There is even a week of special performances for kids to be found throughout the month of August.

Granted, other theatres are available, but in terms of bringing together the very best of theatrics in a picturesque setting, Covent Garden tops the list. It might be The Lion King at the Lyceum, or Matilda the Musical at the Cambridge Theatre, but there is a wealth of options for little eyes.
